About Aikido
"Aikido is Mixed Japanese Traditional Martial Arts and steadfastly pursues the traditional values of Japanese martial arts, focusing on "developing the mind and body" as its primary goal"
Aikido is a modern martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883–1969), who refined the essence of traditional Japanese martial arts and underwent rigorous spiritual training. Aikido does not engage in mere competition of strength with opponents. Instead, it aims to improve both body and mind through techniques that arise from body movement and breathing, focusing on mutual growth and practice.

About KITAYAMA Dojo
"We are a specialized Aikido Dojo in Gold Coast (Aikikai style) and dedicated to passing on the benefits of Aikido and Japanese culture to future generations"
Aikido Kitayama Dojo is a specialized Aikido dojo in Australia under the umbrella of Aikido Toyonaka Shōsenji Dojo, represented by Shihan Tamayuki Shimamoto (7th Dan), and is officially recognized by the Aikikai Hombu Dojo, Tokyo. Currently, we conduct training in two locations (Upper Coomera and Hope Island) in the northern Gold Coast.
At our dojo, we aim to enhance the community’s awareness of self-defense (protecting oneself from danger) through Aikido. We are dedicated to passing on the benefits of Aikido and Japanese culture to future generations, contributing to the development of individuals who can excel globally, with a particular focus on our children’s classes.
Our Classes
A specialised Aikikai Aikido Dojo on the Gold Coast, led by a Japanese instructor with over 30 years of experience.
We offer serious, authentic training rooted in a True-BUDO approach, in a disciplined environment—just like a traditional dojo in Japan—providing the Gold Coast with a true, dedicated home for Aikido.
We proudly offer four class types: Kids’ Class, Teens & Adults Classes, Women’s Class, and Private Lessons.
Dojo KOKOROE / Etiquette
Dojo Kokoroe is Dojo Minimum Etiquette / Guideline
In traditional Japanese dojos, there has always been a set of guidelines known as kokoroe (etiquette).
The dojo is not a place where you can do whatever you like. There is a set of etiquette rules that must be followed to ensure students can train smoothly and respectfully, in the traditional manner.
New students are expected to read and follow these rules before being allowed to join. They are very important, so please make sure to read them carefully and attend a free trial class before enrolling.
